I did my first ever greetings card trade show at PG Live, at the Business Design Centre in Islington, London. I was upstairs in the showcase area of new designers and had a 3 x 1m stand to decorate however I'd like (though at this trade show, you can't screw or nail anything into the walls).
Once I knew I was doing this trade show, I planned out my stand to scale to work out what I could fit and where, and decided what display panels to make!
I made these 4 panels within about 4 hours (which is pretty good going!) and my trusty parents came along to help me paint them to add a little pop of colour to my stand. I decided not to paint the whole stand as it's SUCH a lot of work to do (and I work full time).
Good old B&Q for cutting the panels to size for me, that saved a ton of time that's for sure! I used 9mm plywood panels and pine batons that I wood glued, clamped and then screwed in from the back (yes I used some jump cables as extra clamps, haha) .
Here's a short video of the setting up process at PG Live:
How cute were these character wall stickers?!
We managed to get everything all sorted and set up the day before the trade show opened, so on the first day we were able to arrive without much stress! It's pretty easy to get to the Business Design Centre as it's only a very short walk from Angel tube station.
Here's my stand all set up with products on display:
After the first night, there was a drinks event which was so lovely, mum and I went along and had a couple of glasses of wine before we had some dinner and headed home. Scribbler were sponsoring the food during the event (exhibitors and guests had lunch provided each day), and I got to try out their new "Studio" printing machine (I even gave a bit of UX and UI feedback).
We had a good time at the event, though I think if I were to do it again I would have to have a stand on the lower floor near the entrance as the top floor showcase area just didn't get much "traffic". Otherwise, it's a very well organised event with friendly people running it and I loved that it was catered too!
